To my absolute delight and sheer terror, I find myself with fully booked weekends. Weekends booked not just with family time and activities, but with photo shoots.
I'm still letting that soak in.
Last weekend, the 16th, was my first solo shoot. Up until now I've always gone out with Shandee and thought of myself as her assistant. It's been fun and thrilling and humbling to get to learn more about my craft at her side. So heading out without her was nerve-racking, to say the least. It was also slightly less terrifying than it could have been though, because I was shooting friends, and I felt I could relax a bit. Besides, Miss M always makes the funniest faces at me and I was determined to get some smiles out of her.
But this weekend? This weekend I was shooting strangers, and I was shaking in my boots.
If you know me in real life, you know that I'm pretty shy...at least until I get to know you. I like to kind of hang on the edges of any social situation until I get a feel for everyone's personalities. Guess what? You can't do that when you're their photographer! No hiding behind the camera! (Bummer, eh?)
It turns out that I didn't need to worry a BIT. This family was so warm and sweet. The two kids kept me smiling the whole time. They needed little direction and were willing to try things out. Daughter E is a total natural when it comes to posing and has no problem vogueing it up. Neither does the rest of the family, really. They were willing to trudge around with me, trying all kinds of different stuff. And I think we got a couple of good shots...
Had to make sure to get Mom and Dad, mostly because there are so few photos of Hubby and I, so I always assume it's the same for other families.
And the whole family. This one is my favourite (so far) so I definitely had to include it.
That's them--so warm and fun and loving. You could tell that they really enjoy each other.
Amanda and Jason, it was so good to meet you! Thanks so much for playing with me and being such good sports. I wish we were neighbours! I'll be working on the rest of your photos and will get in touch when they're all ready.
PS Debbie, I know you're rolling your eyes. Hubby and I are working on designing a website for all the sneaky peakies and then this one will get back to family only. Mostly. :)
