I've been on a little online scrap adventure lately.
This summer my local LSS opened an online forum and gallery. There I met the greatest people and had the most fun. There was an incredible design team, inspirational challenges, and the silliest chatter a girl could want. For the first time I really felt at home on a message board.
This was extra helpful because the last place I felt semi-comfortable, over at Simple Scrapbooks, had changed their website and I couldn't even get on.
(Still can't. It's very frustrating. I even tried reregistering with a new username and email but it recognized my other info and told me I was already registered. I can log in, but whenever I try to adjust my profile or upload a photo I only get an error message. Argh!)
Anyway, happiness abounded until November, when the owner of the LSS was presented with a career opportunity she just couldn't pass up and decided to close the store. There was shock, there was sadness, there was even a little panic. Where will I get my supplies? Who will I play with now?
I wasn't alone in my feelings though and the girls rallied and took up a collection to keep the forum going. I was without an LSS but still had my pals.
Last week someone mentioned something on the boards...the OTHER LSS in Fredericton. SAY WHAT? Yes, another store had opened back in the summer without my even knowing about it. I found it and have to say I was delighted. The owners have a nice selection that includes a great deal of French supplies (Yay!). They also have a HUGE back room for crops that you can use any time and a small children's room where the kids can colour and play while you shop. Those are big, BIG selling features for me. The customer service was wonderful and I was so relieved to know that I have a place to get supplies again.
Then yesterday, terrible news: the forum would be unable to continue. I was devastated all over again. It was such a great forum! What would we do? The girls started sharing links to other forums that some of them are also a part of, but some were over here, some over there...it was obvious that it just wouldn't be the same. To say I was struck low would be an understatement.
Well, they rallied again! The wonderful Kristine Davidson (visit her blog and give her some love for being AMAZING!) moved us over to a new domain with a new but familiar look--and it only took her a couple of hours. WOW! And so far it looks like most people are making the transition. Challenges are continuing, chatter remains silly, and the gallery will be up soon. And the euphoria over our close call makes everyone just a little giddy.
So if you're looking for me, I'm over at skrapnchat, partying it up. If you're a scrapper (or skrapper), come on over! We have ladies from across North America (but would love to make that around the world!) and the talent is really incredible. Most of us have a Maritime connection of some sort, but you don't have to have one to join us. And since we're now really independent, we can talk freely about stores and sales and contests and calls without the need to be loyal (there are still moderators though, and everyone plays nice anyway). Our design team stayed intact and is keeping the challenges coming.
And hopefully this is the end of the roller coaster for a while!
