I love a good meme, and though I don't post them all that often, I do every one I see in my head. When I saw this one from Shannon though, I HAD to actually play along. What can I say, I have babies on the brain lately (this means nothing except that I'm losing my marbles and I love babies). It's labour day and my sister in law just had a baby, so what better timing can there be? Enjoy!
(men, you might want to tiptoe away now).
How long were your labors?
Kid #1, 11 hours.
Kid #2, 3 hours (she's always been such an eager beaver)
Kid #3, Huh? 2 weeks of back labour, a few hours of "is this labour or isn't it? contractions, and finally an hour or so of "oh the pain!". From the time I KNEW I was in labour to birth less than 2 hours. This would be the child who still hears "just please, MAKE UP YOUR MIND" from a parent at least once a day.
How did you know you were in labor?
Kid #1, contractions woke me and I could set my watch by them.
Kid #2, induced--the dr. broke the water and away we went!
Kid #3, when the nurse checked the machine and said "you're really in labour, stay here".
Where did you deliver?
With all of them, at a hospital. Fun fact: home births are illegal in New Brunswick, something I wish I had known before moving here.
Drugs?
No. Thanks. My life-long fear of needles totally trumps any pain caused by labour. Plus, did you ever read the possible side-effects? Scary stuff man. Also, when can I go home? I really hate hospitals.
C-section?
Fortunately, no. See above fears. The Lord took pity on my phobias and I, for which I always give thanks.
Who delivered?
I did, silly! Kidding. The same sweet, wonderful Dr. for both girls, though Sweetpea came so fast that he was wearing a glove and had one arm through his gown and barely caught the head. She's so sneaky! I vaguely remember a resident or intern or something with the Boy, but Hubby says it was an actual Doctor. I honestly don't remember. I was pretty out of it (and I hadn't even had any drugs!).
That was so much fun! If you want to play along, just copy and paste the questions and then head over here to sign the Mr. Linky. Happy Labour Day everyone!
Nice to see a fellow Canadian mom answering the meme! Home births aren't illegal here in Alberta, but midwife care isn't covered so I had hospital births too - oh well!

Illegal homebirths? I cannot even imagine!

Sounds like some interesting births. Weird that home births are illegal, but I'm sure there is a reason! I've been reading some stories from RIMD and am glad so many people have shared. I am due in less than 4 weeks and can't wait to meet our little one!
My friends are sharing advice for my labor this week on our blog if you'd like to join along and send some my way!
