...and lucky for me it's Crap Shoot Tuesday, 'cause none of my photos turned out well AT ALL! But they're the only ones I'll ever have of my baby turning 4, so they'll be awesome to me.
By request, the cake. We got crazy and set up a dinosaur landscape. Everyone's favourite part? The "spike tail" drowning in the tar pond (chocolate syrup pool). You should have heard the protests when I put up those broccoli trees though--now THAT's scary!
Not the prettiest cake ever, but I had 20 minutes before having to run to piano lessons and lots of helpers. The broken maple cookies are the rocks and there are lots of graham and oreo crumbs to rough up the landscape. My kidlets were super excited, and they're the important critics!
The menu, by request was hot dogs and chips. I provided veggies as well, but they went untouched. No surprise there. Usually we open gifts while I serve the cake, but then I miss all the fun, so I just didn't mention gifts. It wasn't until everyone was done their cake that Sweetpea remembered that presents go with birthdays. I tried doing the fake-out, like this was new information and I didn't have any gifts, but the boy looked like he was going to cry, so I whispered the secret location in his ear (the train table in the living room). The girls helped him destroy the wrapping paper (Christmas, because it turns out we ran out of birthday paper. Like he noticed!) and gifts were celebrated. He got a remote controlled dinosaur from Granma, books from Mom and Dad (it's tradition) and a Webkinz pig from the girls. He's a happy, happy camper.
Funniest moment of the night: When he opened the pig he gave a squeal of delight and clutched it to his chest. Sweetpea saw what it was, leapt into the air and shouted "WE DID IT!!!". I'm not sure what prompted such a touchdown moment, but it cracked me up.
Favourite (crappy) photo of the day:
