I'm interrupting birthday tributes and Easter posts to bring the following message:
I enjoy American Idol.
I don't get super hyped about it, but I enjoy it and try to watch. My dh even watches with me, and that's saying a lot. He is very choosy about his television viewing.
I love watching the early auditions and trying to pick out the winners. Last year, I admit, I was really rooting for sweet Melinda Doolittle and thought they had a pretty good crop of talent to pick from. This year, there were some I liked, but no one jumped out at me.
Then the surprises began.
Michael Johns astounding me with "Bohemian Rhapsody" during Hollywood week.
Sayesha's amazing performance (also during Hollywood week) despite her laryngitis.
Those two were my front runners.....except they hadn't done anything amazing since Hollywood week. (Both were great last night. Comeback time?)
Carly is consistently good, though I'm still waiting for THE performance from her. I do have a weakness for the Irish though...
Then I started falling for Brooke White. She's so sweet and real. A little geeky and awkward without an instrument in her hands, but she makes lovely music once you hand her something to play. I just really LIKE her.
David A. got me (and everyone else) with his rendition of Lennon's "Imagine". At first I thought "Oh NO YOU DON'T!" but he did and I liked it in spite of myself. He's had a couple good performances since then but hasn't wowed me again. It's good to know that the potential is there. Give the kid a few years; I'll stay on the Brooke bandwagon.
And then it happened. The guy I didn't really like, wasn't really interested in (mocked his hair a little), melted my heart. He had me at "Hello", but it didn't stop there. I was ready to start downloading after "Eleanor Rigby".
Then there was last night.
I think I'm in love a little. Start selling your music NOW David Cook. I'll buy.
