Do you all know The Land Before Time ? It started out as a super cute movie and turned into a monster with way too many sequels....
Anyway, my kids, like most kids, LOVE these movies and these characters. They have sparked an interest in dinosaurs that has lasted years now. They also insist that all dinosaurs be called by their Land Before Time names rather than their real ones. (I know this because I got books about dinosaurs from the library. Teaching opportunity ahead! WRONG! The kids were scandalized by the names I was giving their dinosaurs. They yelled at me until I agreed that these ones are long necks, etc).
At least once a week at our house you can hear the kids playing LBT. They each have their favourite dinosaur and this is one of their favourite things to do.
The boy is ALWAYS Petrie (the "flyer").
Lately, he is ALWAYS Petrie when he wakes up. We put a boy to bed at night, but in the morning Petrie flies into our room. He then makes a "nest" on our bed by wedging himself between his dad and I and bunching up the blankets. And loudly announcing "I'm Petrie and this is my nest!". Every morning.
The newest twist is that he'll go get some of his favourite stuffies, Bunch them up in the "nest" and tell us they are his eggs. Sometimes he'll sit on them and sometimes he just watches them. When they wake up, he raids the toy food to get them something to eat.
Yesterday this routine goes like this until he yells
My eggs! They're catching!
"You mean hatching" I mumble into my pillow.
He would have added "Get it RIGHT, MOTHER" if only he knew how.
But the look he shot me, the daggers of death and scorn, they totally got his point across.
Incidently, it's the EXACT same look I get from his father when I procrastinate making phone calls.
Nature or nurture? You be the judge.
