It was a very special day for our newest 5 year old.
FIrst of all, her actual birthday was on Tuesday, but our head Guider was on vacation in Cuba and I was leading the meeting for the very first time. I needed to leave the house as soon as the dh (he really needs a bloggy name) arrived, so Tueday wasn't going to work as a party day. I told her that and asked her to pick Monday or Wednesday for her party. Who wants to wait an extra day? She wanted Monday. She didn't care that it was Easter, she was quite happy to share.
So her day started with the discovery of an Easter egg trail outside her room, down the hallway and disappearing down the stairs. It was shortly followed by following that trail, having a blast doing an egg hunt with her siblings (aka: best friends) and enjoying all her goodies. A super-sized breakfast. More play/discovery and suddenly....balloons!
Any day that includes balloons is a great day indeed.
Birthday girl chooses the colours.
Hours of fun can be had when you have balloons. First, there's laughing at mama's face as she tries to blow them up. There are always balloon songs to play, and the odd runaway balloon that escapes being knotted to careen about the room. Always good times.
Then there is the universally enjoyed game of "keep up".
Then, through the magic of childhood, there is a cake to go crazy over and declarations that this is the BEST. BIRTHDAY. EVER.
At last it's time for supper. There was yogurt, strawberries and hot dogs. All of Sweetpea's favourites. All of which were consumed quite slowly, as her excitement was so high and her gaze kept wandering to that beautiful, beautiful cake as she let out random laughs of joy.
Finally, FINALLY it is time for cake and presents.
(Please ignore my dirty dishes. I reached a kitchen cleaning threshold that day.)
Lighting the candles:
Singing and all that jazz:
(Left to choose their own wardrobe for this special event, the Princess chooses a sparkly dress and Sweetpea goes with pj's. I think that says so much.)
Check out the glee on that child's face!
Now it's present time!
Meh. Bee Movie? I don't think I like this movie.
Ouch. Apparently after riding the roller coaster of excitement up, up, up all day long, it's time to come down. At least the big gift remains.
Where'd she go?
Ok, she's recovered.
She reluctantly and gingerly begins the reveal.
Let me help you with that. That's what big sisters are for.
Are they REAL? I don't think it's safe! I need safety! Safety for my knees and my elbows. I don't think I know how to roller skate. I don't like roller skating.
Oh Mama. This is not my best birthday anymore. This is a bad birthday.
Princess says: I'll have them!
I guess we peaked at the cake.
